Killed by Dump Trucks – Another Life Lost to Speeding Dumpers in Assam; Toll Rises Amid Public Outcry

Dump Trucks in Assam  continues to witness a disturbing rise in fatal road accidents involving speeding, with two more lives lost in the past 24 hours. The victims include a woman out for a morning walk in Sipajhar and a motorcyclist in Numaligarh.

In Darrang district’s Bhuktabari area near Sipajhar, a woman identified as Minakshi Devi was run over by a high-speed, earth-laden dumper (registration number AS-13 AC-6841) on the Ghorabondha-Gorukhuti road. The 40-year-old, who had stepped out for her routine morning stroll, died on the spot. After hitting her, the vehicle lost control and overturned on the road.

Minakshi Devi is survived by her two daughters. Locals said the family is financially struggling and demanded immediate compensation either from the dumper’s owner or the district administration. “Dumpers have become a menace here. My sister-in-law lost her life today. Who will take care of her children now?” said a grieving family member.

Residents also expressed anger over the continued movement of reckless dumpers through their locality, claiming repeated appeals to authorities have gone unheard.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist was fatally hit by another speeding dumper on National Highway 39 near Numaligarh early Monday morning. The victim, identified as Rana Kandali of Komargaon Bosapathar village, died on the spot. The dumper involved fled the scene after the crash.

Meanwhile, in yet another case, a home guard is battling for his life at Silchar Medical College and Hospital after being hit by a dumper on the Silchar-Kalain Road.

The growing number of fatal accidents has sparked outrage and fear among residents, who are demanding strict action against reckless dumper drivers and urgent intervention from authorities to prevent further loss of life.
