Five Bangladeshi Nationals Detained Near Red Fort Amid Security Concerns

5 Bangladeshi Nationals Held Ahead of Independence Day

In a major security development just days ahead of India’s 79th Independence Day, five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended near the Red Fort on Monday during intensified security checks. The individuals, aged between 20 and 25, were found without valid entry passes in one of the country’s most heavily guarded zones.

According to police officials, the men were intercepted at a checkpoint near the Red Fort and failed to produce the necessary permits to enter the restricted area. Subsequent verification revealed that they had allegedly entered India illegally around three to four months ago and were working as laborer’s in various parts of the capital.

The group claimed they were unaware of the Red Fort’s closure to the public since July 15 due to Independence Day preparations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Raja Banthia, confirmed that while Bangladeshi documents were recovered from the men, no suspicious activity was detected during their interrogation.

Authorities have ruled out any immediate threat linked to the individuals. However, legal proceedings have been initiated under immigration laws. The case has been referred to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and steps are being taken for their deportation.

This incident comes close on the heels of another major security lapse in the same area. Seven Delhi Police personnel were recently suspended after failing to detect a dummy explosive device during a mock security drill conducted by the Special Cell at the Red Fort.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to deliver the Independence Day address from the Red Fort, security has been significantly intensified. The area is currently under multilayered surveillance, with the deployment of advanced AI-based facial recognition systems, drone monitoring, and high-definition CCTV coverage.

These consecutive incidents underscore the heightened state of vigilance in the capital. Authorities have reiterated that all necessary measures are in place to ensure a safe and incident-free Independence Day celebration.
