Dhanashree Verma ❌ Yuzvendra Chahal
Indian cricket team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma were officially granted a divorce by a Mumbai court on Thursday.
“The court has issued a decree of divorce, accepting the joint petition of both parties. They are no longer husband and wife,” said Nitin Kumar Gupta, Chahal’s advocate, in a statement to ANI.
Following the court proceedings, Chahal was seen leaving with a jacket in hand, wearing a T-shirt that read, “Be your own sugar daddy.” Meanwhile, Dhanashree Verma appeared in a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a black face mask.
A video of Dhanashree Verma heading to Bandra court has since gone viral on social media. In the clip, she is seen losing her temper at paparazzi after a woman fell due to the crowd’s chaos.
Speculation about their separation began when the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram. Dhanashree Verma and Chahal, who tied the knot in December 2020 in an intimate Gurugram ceremony, met during the pandemic when Chahal approached her for dance lessons.
After four years of marriage, the couple decided to part ways. They filed for divorce by mutual consent on February 5. However, on February 20, the family court refused to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period. Their petition stated that they had been living separately since June 2022, just 18 months after their wedding.
Challenging the February 20 ruling, the couple appealed to have the cooling-off period waived. The hearing was expedited due to Chahal’s commitments with Punjab Kings for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who was signed by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for ₹18 crore in the November 2024 auction, is one of the IPL’s most prolific bowlers. He holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian in T20Is and by any bowler in IPL history. In 80 T20Is, he has taken 96 wickets at an average of 25.09, with a best performance of 6/25. Across all formats, he has 354 wickets in 305 matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal remains Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) all-time leading wicket-taker, having taken 139 wickets in 113 matches from 2014 to 2021. Since joining Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022, he has played a key role in helping the team reach the playoffs twice in three seasons.
