5-Year-Old Girl Dies After building falls from Under-Construction in Guwahati
A tragic incident in Guwahati’s Chhatribari on Monday evening claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl after a stone slab from a nearby under-construction building falls on her.
The victim, identified as Papia Ghosh, was inside her rented home when the heavy slab fell from an under-construction apartment named Golden Heights, around 5 PM.
Residents of the area blamed the builders for failing to secure the construction site properly, alleging that the absence of boundary coverings led to the fatal accident.
Papia, who had lost her father, was being raised by her mother along with her elder sister.
“The builders neglected safety measures and did not cover the boundary of the site, which directly caused this heartbreaking incident,” a local resident told News Live.
Further allegations surfaced regarding the child’s medical treatment. Initially rushed to Neemcare Hospital, she was later shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), reportedly because the builders wanted to avoid higher hospitalization costs at Neemcare.
“The builders are entirely responsible. Not only did they ignore safety regulations, but they also allegedly transferred her to GMCH to cut costs,” claimed another neighbor.
Sadly, the child succumbed to her injuries at GMCH later that day.
