Indian Student Fatally Struck by Stray Bullet in Canada Shooting Incident
In a tragic incident in Hamilton, Ontario, 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa, an international student from India studying at Mohawk College, was killed after being struck by a stray bullet during a gang-related shooting.
According to local police, the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when gunfire was exchanged between occupants of a black Mercedes SUV and a white sedan. Harsimrat, who was waiting at a bus stop on her way to work, was caught in the crossfire and sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. She was transported to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Police confirmed that she was an innocent bystander with no connection to the incident. The stray bullets also hit a nearby residence where people were watching television, though no other injuries were reported.
Hamilton Police have launched a homicide investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage. Authorities confirmed that the Mercedes SUV’s passenger opened fire before the white sedan fled the scene.
India’s Consulate in Toronto expressed deep sorrow over the loss and is providing support to Harsimrat’s family.
“This is a young girl who had her whole life ahead of her and tragically lost her life because some thugs picked up a gun,” said Hamilton Police Chief Frank Bergen.
Mohawk College issued a statement expressing condolences and affirmed their commitment to supporting students and the community affected by this loss.
